- So, Alice, why did you ask me to see you here in such a late time?
- Prof. O'Neil... David... My father... He... He is dead. You know, he was a drunkard. When I were a child he always beat me and my mother. But now.... ....
She can't speak anymore...
- Alice, please, don't cry. Drink a glass of water.
- No! I'm tired of drinking water! I need something to fall in unconsciousness. Hey, waitress, bring us a bottle of red wine.
- Alice, stop. Don't ruin everything. Let me help you.
- No, you can't help me. Don't you see, I'm not sober now?! I've drunk two or three bottles of beer. Now I want red wine.
- Here is your wine...
David was sitting and watching Alice drinking red wine...

Five long minutes he was watching her sipping wine not quite well understanding what was the reason for her to ask him to watch her getting plastered. The girl definitely has problems and his duty was to help. Why would she phone him? Meantime, she got absolutely tight, and he had to do something with it.

- Listen Alice, I have something to tell you. This is not the way out, how can you behave like that, do you believe your father would approve of that? Listen, I have a good fellow, a friend of mine, he's just what you need. A doctor, a very good doctor.
- I don't need no doctors, I just need to forget.
- He'll help you, ya bet. Wait, I'm gonna phone him right now...

She stared at him with red eyes. Her glass was empty.
- Are you deaf? I'm in right mind! I don't want all this palaver!
He put the phone aside and thrummed upon the table.Suddenly an idea came to his head.
-OK. After all, that doesn't come within my duties. Here you are. Pay for your wine.
His voice was trembling though he was trying to look forceful.

A few minutes later David understood that Alice was unable to control herself.
- Alice, you've drunk enough wine. I'll take you home. Where do you live?
- St. James Avenue, 36. David... I love you.
She was laughing saying these words, but professor understood that she was serious. In 15 minutes they were in Alice's flat. She couldn't even move, so David carried her in her bedroom.
- You should sleep a little. I'll call you in the morning. Good bye.
Mr. O'Neil was going to leave Alice, but suddenly she stood up and came to him.
- David...
She looked into his eyes. He couldn't control himself anymore. David kissed Alice.

But it didn't go further. She was drunk. He didn't want any important event to happen because he understood that she would remember nothing in the morning. And he wanted both of them to have common memories, common experience.
- Alice, you'd better take a nap... Good night, sweetie...
And he left her, heading for his abandoned flat.

Thoughts seethed madly in his brain. He didn't even notice that it was raining heavily. He was walking slowly, approaching his flat. Suddenly he stopped.Misgivings twitched him. What if...? It seemed stupid and absolutely pointless to return home now.

Absolutely pointless. But absolutely unavoidable. He just had to go home. He knew Martha wouldn't open the door if he came. Especially that late in the evening.
So, he came home. Had three cups of tee with melissa and mint. Didn't help. Opened a book. Didn't help. Went to sleep. Fell asleep. Heard his cell phone ringing.
- yeah, who's that?
