I sometimes come across the wrong usage of these two simple words. The problem again is in the interlingual interference. This interference happens due to the fact that the Russian word 'решать/решить' has two meanings: a) принять решение (сформулировать мнение) and b) справиться с проблемой (преодолеть проблему).
- So, when you want to say that you have made up your mind, use the verb 'to decide'.
E.g.: I decided to go to University. My decision (=opinion) was right.
- When you want to say that you have overcome a problem, use the verb 'to solve'
E.g.: I solved the main conflict in the office. My solution (=strategy) was right.
