| The main difference between 'to get' and 'to receive' is in the language register. 'To get' is colloquial and also highly polysemantic. 'To receive' is a literary word that is used as a transitive verb with various objects following it. So, you can say:
- receive emails, documents, letters, etc.
- receive applause, comments, information,
- receive visitors, guests, dimplomats, etc.
- receive access to, concessions, etc.
