| I would like to give you some information and my interpretation of one of the most famous works by Sandro Botticelli “The Birth of Venus”. You can see the picture here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped....ect.jpg
It was painted in 1486 and the main theme reflected in the picture is the birth of a goddess. Venus is painted in the centre, she is naked and it reflects the innocence of the birth and of her being a goddess. The painter depicts her as a grown up woman staying on a sea shell. It is important to remember the words of Plato who considered Venus as a goddess who aroused people to physical love and the one who provoked intellectual love in them. Also, Plato was probably the first one who stated that physical beauty can stimulate spiritual beauty. That is why, looking at depicted Venus people at first enjoy the beauty of her body and then their minds and thoughts go further realizing the genuine power of the Creator, hence understanding beauty not only like something vulgar but like a pure thing, a real treasure. That is true that Botticelli could feel very delicately what beauty is and how it can be depicted. People still regard his works as a beautiful piece of art.

| Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi, better known as Sandro Botticelli (c. 1445 – May 17, 1510) was an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance. He belonged to the Florentine school under the patronage of Lorenzo de' Medici, a movement that Giorgio Vasari would characterize less than a hundred years later as a "golden age", a thought, suitably enough, he expressed at the head of his Vita of Botticelli. Botticelli's posthumous reputation suffered until the late 19th century; since then his work has been seen to represent the linear grace of Early Renaissance painting. Among his best known works are The Birth of Venus and Primavera.
Botticelli. Primavera (c. 1485-1487, the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy)
Primavera, also known as Allegory of Spring, is a tempera panel painting. Most critics agree that the painting, depicting a group of mythological figures in a garden, is allegorical for the lush growth of Spring, other meanings have also been explored. Among them, the work is sometimes cited as illustrating the ideal of Neoplatonic love. The pastoral scenery is elaborate. There are 500 identified plant species depicted in the painting, with about 190 different flowers. The overall appearance of the painting is similar to Flemish tapestries that were popular at the time.
Tempera, also known as egg tempera, is a permanent fast-drying painting medium consisting of colored pigment mixed with a water-soluble binder medium (usually a glutinous material such as egg yolk or some other size). Tempera paintings are very long lasting. Egg tempera was a primary method of painting until after 1500 when it was superseded by the invention of oil painting.
A panel painting is a painting made on a flat panel made of wood, either a single piece, or a number of pieces joined together.
Tapestry is a form of textile art, traditionally woven on a vertical loom, however it can also be woven on a floor loom as well.
