Brown bears returned to Chernobyl a hundred years later
Brown bears returned to The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone a hundred years later, this is evidenced by photographs obtained by scientists. Images of bears were obtained by using camera traps which were placed in a radioactive area to observe how the radiation exposure acts on animal life. "Our ukrainian colleague Sergei Gashchak established several camera traps in order to understand what is happening to the wildlife in the exclusion zone," - said the head of the project at the University of Salford Mike Wood. The scientist also noted that the photos are the first evidence of the presence of brown bears in the area after the Chernobyl NPP disaster. According to the assumption of scientists, the radiocontamination had an impact on the habits of animals, in particular on their eating habits and habitat.
