For the majority of Australians, Christmas Downunder has all the glitter, tinsel and razzmatazz of a Christmas in New York, London Paris or Vancouver. The major difference is one of WEATHER....Christmas Down Under is never White. Snow has rarely fallen if ever on this date, Down Under. We have during past Christmases experienced all the seasonal variations of a Summer Down Under.....electrical storms, floods, hailstorms, cyclones and bushfires. But 80% of the time we are blessed with blue skies and depending on our Australian location, temperatures ranging from 25-38 degrees centigrade. Currently it is Summer Down Under and daily temperatures range from 30-40 degrees centigrade on the mainland. Tamania is always slightly cooler.
It seems to me that I'd not celebrate Christmas in Australia, because as for me Christmas has a great connection with snow smile

Christmas in Australia happens in the summer. However, we tried our best to deny the reality of a summer Christmas. In the class-room, children learned songs like Frosty the Snowman and Jingle Bells. Up until recently, the only Christmas cards published portrayed white winter Christmases, All this was a bit ridiculous in a country where 80 per cent of the land has never witnessed a snowflake, even in winter

Well, it's very interesting to learn that there are other ways to spend Christmas holidays. Such things depend on climat, historical customs and geographical position. To my mind, the most significant condition of any holiday is a group of close and dear people around you! BUT, as for me, New Year isn't so magical without show. I just can't imagine that little children play on the beach instead of a jard covered by show in a christmas morning.  wink
