Dear Learners! Do not ignore the notorious grammar of rule of the Senquence of Tenses. This rule always works in real past contexts when we report events, actions, words. E.g.:
When I was a teenager, I was always afraid that my parents didn't understand.
If you say the same in Russian, you will notice the final verb used is the Present Tense Form. But in English the verb should be in the related Past Tense, like it is here in the Past Simple.
So, the sentences below has got a bad mistake.
I didn’t want to speak with them; I thought that they do not understand me
God said that Adam and Eva can eat fruit from all trees in that garden besides one.
