Allow - Staying or To Stay

Dear Netters! Study the following examples:
- They never allow re-writng the documents
- They never allow us to re-write the documents.
When you use the words 'to allow', use the gerund for the second verb that goes right after the main predicate - to allow doing smth
When you use any object that means a thing or person after the verb 'to allow', you must use the infinitive - to allow smb to do smth
So, according to the rule, the sentence contains the mistake:

'So I'm pretty irritated with my set of genes that doesn't allow to stay awake as long as I want'.
In this sentence the author should have used either 'allow staying awake' or 'allow me to stay awake'
