The problem with these two words rests with the effect of interlingual interference.
The Russian verb 'рисовать'means at least two different ways of creating an image or a picture depending on what we use to do it.
If we use 'a pencil' or 'a piece of chalk' or 'a marker', then we should use the verb 'to draw'.
If we use paints, then we should use the verb 'to paint'.
So, in this sentence the verb 'to draw' is the wrong choice. We should use the verb 'to paint'or a more abstract one 'to create':
'A lot of outstanding painters like Rublev, Grek drew many famous Icons...'
