15.12.2010, 17:18
In this video, the speaker discusses the ancient Christian tradition of displaying and venerating the Holy Icons, images of Christ, the Theotokos (Virgin Mary), and the Saints and Angels. The brief history of Iconography is presented, mostly Iconography in the context of the Second Commandment, and the author speaks about how the Holy Icons are viewed and used in the Orthodox Church today.
Holy Icons aren't just beautiful pictures, they are artworks. A lot of outstanding painters like Rublev, Grek painted many famous Icons. It's very calming just to look at them.
Representatives of other religions often accuse Orthodox Church of the veneration of idols. But in fact the situation is different and the worship of sacred image is absolutely another thing. In this video everything is explained in very simple terms. Thanks, MissJane
It's just amazing. And I know that foreigners, not matter whether they believe in God or not, admire our icons a lot, because they are really something unique that exists in our art.
