Kaisa, did I get it right that you like post rock music? Is it a popular style in Russian? Is it only music or does it also affect lyrics? What is the main subject of the style?

Teacher, I can't say that post rock is my favorite genre of music but I like some bands playing such music. As to popularity in Russia, I think post rock is enough popular. Of course, this genre affects lyrics. In my opinion, the main subject of the style is experiment with music.

But the word 'style' presupposes some canons, doesn't it?

How daring may the experiments be then?

Well, the experements may be absolutely different. As I wrote before, post rock sound has some elements from a variety of styles. Songs may combine different textures, timbres and dynamics. As to vocal, it is omitted. However, there are bands which use vocal. Vocals are usually soft and dronning. Moreover, some musicians use their own fictional language or forms of gibberish vocals as an additional instrument. Every post rock band is free to make music including many new elements. It's a question of fantasy and imagination. So, the experements may be as daring as possible.

Kaisa, could you add a link to any internet site where I can read about it and listen to some pieces online. I think it would be great if you added an entry into one of our blogs "All about music".

lovefootball), yes, I can give an example of such language. There is an Icelandic post rock band called Sigur Rós. This band is known for its unusual sound, falsetto singing and special language. The name of this language is Hopelandic. Hopelandic was created by Sigur Rós frontman. This language is a mixture of Icelandic and invented words. So, the band uses Hopelandic in its lyrics.

That's so interesting! Frankly speaking,I didn't know about that earlier. It's a pity that my knowledge of music is not so profound)))

lovefootball), I am glad that you find it interesting. As to profound knowledge, I think it's really hard to know everything about every sphere of art or life. For example, my knowledge of football leaves much to be desired.

By the way, when and how did you find 'your' favourite music in this variety of styles?

I think I found my favorite music three or four years ago. How? I listened to many bands and musicians of different genres. I also read information about these styles and musicians to know more about them. Eventually, I chose the music I liked.
