‘General quality of education’ has become a standardized formula to indicate the direction in which all modern schools have to develop. Much has been said recently about the ways how to achieve it. Quality of education is meant to be a set of characteristics pupils are endowed with to meet the requirement of modern society and the pace of its progress.
Approximately a month ago D. Medvedev entrusted the Prime Minister Vladimir Putin with the task of changing the very model of school knowledge assessment. This should be done by February, 2012.
This sort of assessment will include not only school achievements, but also extracurricular ones. They plan to create a mechanism of school portfolios (functional in every region) which will be taken into consideration when entering a high school. The idea has a right to exist (and it probably represents a fairer and more full-scale evaluation of students’ progress) but some specialists claim such a system will inevitably trigger off an avalanche of bribes at schools.
As far as I know school portfolios are not new things.A pupil always keep letter of commendations and different prizes from different competitions and contests.And when he/she enters the university he/she brings copies of it and gives them to the selection committee.This was at least when I learned at school
