Electricity Supplies Cut to Belarus
Russia has reduced energy export to Belarus by one half due to the state debt of Belarus. A source at Inter RAO IUES.MM said: "If Belarus doesn't pay, supplies will be shut off entirely on June 19." The country is undergoing a severe economic crisis with a high interest rate (16%) and soaring prices. Belarus said it owed $54m and it has also asked the IMF for an emergency loan of up to $8bn. Though Russia has always been considered an ally of Belarus, Moscow is not likely to change the decision.
Belarus always has some problems not only with electricity and gas. This country is very unstable. its President said that will close this country for ever. But to my mind he wont do that because Belarus depend on many countries, especially Russia.
The situation in Belarus seems to be very precarious. With such policy as they have now it's hardly possible to stop the crisis. Especially, if now they won't have Russian gas.
