German and Spanish Vegetables Banned
An outbreak of a highly virulent strain of the E. coli bacteria has set the whole Europe in panic. 22 people are reported to have died in Germany, more than 2200 have become victims of the outbreak. It was suspected that this was caused by contaminated cucumbers from Spain. But now experts say the sprouting soya beans are guilty as soya is often used while growing vegetables. Apart from FRG, the cases of the outbreak were registered in 10 countries of the European Union as well as in the USA. Russia's consumer protection agency says it has banned the import of all vegetables from Germany and Spain.
