Russia’s only Museum of the Heart has opened in St.Petersburg. The museum’s exhibits tell visitors in simple language about the structure of a human heart, how it works and what could be done to maintain it in healthy condition. Some of the exhibits demonstrate the functioning of the blood circulation system and explain the causes of various heart conditions. Due to special simulators, visitors can become part of different situations and see the danger of drunk-driving.
I also think that that exhibiton must have been very interesting. It would be very informative and educational for me to visit it as well. Though I would say I prefer something that does not touch upon the medical spheare.
To my mind, it would be of great importance to create such museums (or at least show-rooms) at every hospital and to force patients to take a small tour. It would be not only informative but also entertaining (imagine that you can visit a museum while waiting for your turn to have an appointment with the doctor or when taking a treatment course in an in-patient clinic).
I’m absolutely sure that we need such exhibitions. As for me, all that I know about my “inner world” I got from lessons of biology (actually I don’t remember anything) or from personal experience. Does anybody know where spleen is? Or how many parts are there in our lungs? Or what kind of blood pulsates: arterial or venous? And this information is of vital importance! I hope that the Heart Museum is just the first step and after a couple of years we will have exhibitions covered the whole human body.
