Immigrant Workers Came into Focus
Several photo exhibitions are taking place in the venues around Madrid until July 24. The main theme of the event is the focus on photographic portraiture as a special kind of photo art. But the artists have harnessed the power of the portrait in new ways. One of the 70 exhibitions is dedicated to immigrants showing them as superheroes. Each photograph is accompanied by text revealing the subject's heroic efforts, such as working long hours as a parcel delivery boy while managing to send home money to their family. "It's very interesting because it shows immigrants not as the usual representation of drug dealers or lazy people or criminals, but rather like hard workers who're doing jobs other people don't want to do. In a way they are super heroes," said exhibition and festival curator Gerardo Mosquera. It is definitely a new way to draw people’s attention to the problems of immigrants which might have far-reaching results.

It's a very wide-spread sterotype. People can do their job, and they do it great, and if we speak about Russia - they do it even better than native citizens. By the way, immigrants in Russia have a lot of work to do now - a great deal of houses are being built now in the same great number of villages and towns.

Well, it really is revealing! I have never thought in this light! We are used to thinking that immigrants are uneducated, unreliable, antisocial characters! But they really can manifest a new social economic tendency - top-quaility work to support top quality businesses run by a few lucky ones! This is a new social cultural patterns to see such workers' in a heroic light!

I think this is such a taunting at immigrants! It does not show them as great people at all, these photos just extract them from the crowd and enphasize once again "yeees, THEY are IMMIGRANTS!" Well, that was the aim, and the photographer reached it.
