Is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) curable?
In Germany AIDS was cured for the first time. The patient – a man of 42 years old had AIDS and leukaemia. In 2007 he had a blood stem cell transplant to treat leukaemia and his donor had a gene mutation that confers natural resistance to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). 3 years have passed and the patient has no leukaemia no HIV. Unfortunately this method can’t be suitable for all patients, because it is too risky for healthy people with the very gene and there are mot many of them. By the way it is a really breakthrough. It shows that even uncured can be cured.
Here is the map of mutation spread. It is an interesting fact that 13 percent of Russian were born with this gene mutation.

So, does it it mean that we can treat people with AIDS by cells of those who have immunity?

Yes, it is so. And it also means that approximately one in ten men in Russia are secured from this awful disease. Nevertheless, don’t think that it is you!

Incurable can be cured. Yes, it is so. Earlier pneumonia belonged to these incurable diseases. Many (much more than now) people died of influenza. And this list can be continued. It means that we have already had a breakthrough in medicine. But we need another one to treat "incurable" diseases existing nowadays.
