Several days ago I read an article about marathons in England. Actually this country arranges running quite often. Well… not only this country. It’s quite popular abroad. People take part in such competitions for different reasons, but the main reason is charity. Though there are such “sportsmen” who just want to prove something, making a bet with their friends that they’ll be successful or something like that. To tell the truth, long distances were always a huge problem for me, so I actually admire these runners. I don’t think that marathons are so popular in our country, well, I suppose they are held, but we never know about them, while in England the marathon is a great event for a great amount of people. That would be nice if it was also organized here, though maybe it is organized, but we are not aware of it.
Some sort of races are held in Ryazan and many other cities on the Victory Day, but you're right, they are not near as popular as in some foreign countries.
