Children and tigers: no photos allowed
The Children Rights Commissioner for the President of the Russian Federation Pavel Astakhov suggested to prohibit taking photos of children with animals in zoos and circuses. This decision was caused by the tragedy that took place in Amur region where a tiger attacked a 3-year-old child in the zoo. P.Astakhov said that such places of entertainment as circuses and zoos should provide high level of safety for children and in order to prevent such tragedies taking photos with wild animals should be prohibited.

Continuing the theme of parent's responsibility for their children, I want to tell you about the situation I wittnessed. I was in a mini-bus. A mother came in with her little child. The girl was, if I'm not mistaken 3-4 years old. They were sitting at the door. Then mother started chatting on the phone, and her girl was staying too close to the conctantly opening-closing door. The child could easily hurt herself, and as far as I saw the mother didn't care about it, she just lost control.

As for this very piece of news I should say that all places of entertainment indeed must be provided with the highest level of security. But we shouldn't also forget, that "God helps those who help themselves".

I think it's parent's work to control their children's actions. Every normal mother and father won't allow his child to expose himself, so I don't agree with that fact that such photo should be prohibited because of one case. As for my acquaintances, many of them were photographed with such animals as crocodiles, elephants and with some other exotic animals in our circus. And everything was alright.

I do agree with you, Rina. But at the same time I'd also like to say "one shouldn't exaggerate". Of course, we should be more attentive and cautious But prohibiting something because of one single case?! We do not prohibit air planes though they are also dangerous and sometimes crash. We should just draw necessary conclusions!

I guess one shouldn't exaggerate. I tend to believe that taking photos of children sitting with cats and dogs, monkeys and.. any other animals of this kind is quite ok. But what about taking such dangerous animals as tigers and lions? It was said that the tragedy in Amur Region happened, because the boy was standing too close to the cage where the tiger was kept and that the animal managed to reach the child with its paw. I believe that it is parent's responsibility too. They should have watched their child! As for such prohibitions... I guess that photos with some dangerous animals can be prohibited. Or at least restricted. Or strictly controlled by adults and trainers.

That makes sense. But on the other hand, we can't prohibit everything that may cause some trouble. Like, having domestic animals is also dangerous. Should it be prohibited as well??
