Russia has a new football coach!
Dutchman Dick Advocaat has been appointed as the new coach of the Russian national football team. The announcement was made by the President of Russian Football Union, Sergey Fursenko, at the RFU conference in Rostov-on-Don. Last month, the 62-year-old Advocaat resigned as Belgium's coach after just six months in the job and the Russian media have suggested he will sign a long-term contract for a country where he enjoyed success at club level with Zenit St Petersburg.
Actually, I don't know what to expect. Of course, I believe in them but...I'm afraid the same story will happen. A promising start and an awful finish. And Fursenko makes SUCH statements...he promises the victory in 2018. It sounds strange! So the only thing for me is to hope that there really can be striking changes. I believe our team's only salvation is something radical.
Do you think that now Advocaat's Russian National Football Team will achieve any success similar to Hiddink's triumph in Russia? Whose fault is it that the NRFT hasn't won a ticket to the World Football World Championship in South Africa?
Fursenko also mentioned that Advocaat's salary would be lower than Guus's. The new contract will be valid for 4 years. But I'm interested in another thing. Who will continue to play? Will our team be a copy of Zenit? And will there be foreigners in our national team?
