Russia to introduce intelligent bank cards.
Russia will introduce “intelligent” bank cards shortly. For this purpose, the International Laser Centre at Moscow State University has developed an extraordinary electronic device working on an organic solar battery. The new device has no name yet, but it could be “Umka” from the two Russian words “Umnaya Karta” or “intelligent Card”. The device shows new capabilities. This card can be used not only to make payments. Imagine that you are travelling in a car, and you can place the flexible semi-transparent card on the wind screen and watch the map that shows you how to reach your destination. If you are in a traffic jam, you can use the card as a book and read it. Interestingly, the developers name the card as an “Igryshka” or “Toy”. They developed it in their free time. The scientists do not say that their development is a breakthrough. However, they insist that if the intelligent card is produced soon, then Russia will be the first country to use it because no country is using such cards.

I think that people will buy it just for fun or as a present. I really do not understand why people present weather stations or navigator to those who have IPhone or another smart mobile phone with all he/she needs inside. So if they sell it, people will buy. Speaking about solar batteries…. So, it is convenient when you live in a tent (e.g. on the riverside). But what do you use this “igruschka” for?

Yes! I completely agree with Luck and MissJane. Initially the researchers are interested in polymer solar batteries. And in short, this "Igrushka" is a by-product.

All this sounds dull and plain, really... I'm sort of disappointed about the "innovation". Apparently it will cost you pretty penny. Well, they are right, it is a useless pricey trifling "Igrushka" and nothing more.

I am a bit confused because I honestly can't get the idea: what are they going to do that for? We already can use our mobile phone as a book or a map or whatever else. And now they want to create absolutey the same thing (well yes, this is far from being a breakthrough) but on basis of a bank card... It seems to be ridiculous. Maybe Russia will be the first country to use anything else?
