Ryazan Policemen Beat Two Journalists Almost to Death
Ryazan Policemen beat almost to death the editor-in-chief Elena Knyazhskaya and the journalist Yuri Manov from Ryazan Newsagency "Extra Chance" last Saturday. They were returning home from their friend's birthday party. They took a taxi home but when the taxi-driver said that they would have to pay 350 rubles instead of 150 charged by a telephone taxi manager, Elena and Yuri refused to continue their journey and got out of the taxi at a bus stop. There was a police car standing at the bus stop. Two policemen invited them to go to the Zheleznodorozhny Police Department and study out the situation. "When inside, Elene and Yuri suddenly became detainees and were severly beaten by the policemen", said the Extra Chance representative. "Because of the heavy beatings Elena now has brain blood tumor, whereas Yuir Manov's body is covered with bruises all over". The beaten underwent medical examination and appealed to the Investigative Committee at Ryazan Procurator Office. The investigation of the details of the disgusting incident is now a special concern of the Head Police Department.
I wonder if it is just possible that the police SUDDENLY began to beat innocent citizens. If it were so, then our country is the one people should try to escape from as soon as possible.
It's simply a usual case of lawlessness in our country. I think this time policemen were unlucky as they dared to raise their hands against people who wouldn't remain silent. If it had been a case with ordinary, humble citizens, probably it wouldn't have taken air. Of course, I don't mean that all the representatives of the law-enforcement authorities are similar to the ones involved in the accident, but such a piece of news makes me very sad actually.
