Smelly Chemicals Confuse Mosquitoes
Some species of mosquito are regarded to be spreading lethal diseases all over the world and cause millions of deaths. Experts from the University of California, Riverside, claim that they have recently found a way to confuse mosquitoes – not let them track humans. Chemicals which hinder the work of a mosquito's carbon dioxide sense are already being tested.
Professor Anandasankar Ray, from the University of California, Riverside, said: "These chemicals offer powerful advantages as potential tools for reducing mosquito-human contact, and can lead to the development of new generations of insect repellents and lures.”
The only question that arise is whether this powerful protection is safe for humans. The chemicals also need to be used at high concentrations, which could be hazardous to human health. The researchers say their next step is to develop safer chemicals.

We are adults and we can either use “fumitoxes” or suffer itch. But what’s about children? Both variants don’t fit. I just know that now there are special lamps that really work. But they need permanent power supply.

I have been scratching myself for the whole week because of these mosquitoes!)) But I never use anything like "Fumitox" or things like that...because I think that even they can be bad for health. So I am not sure I will ever use any chemicals in order to protect myself from small mosquitoes:) Do we have malarial mosquitos here? I suppose we don't. So there is no need to be afraid. But these chemicals can help some other people who do have mosquitos, carrying pernicious diseases, a lot.

I don't know whether this new anti-mosquito tool will be harmful to humans or not but it's good somebody is trying to improve the situation. Every summer night I turn "Fumitox" on because otherwise this terrible buzzing is getting on my nerves so much that I simply can't sleep. I'm ready to kill everyone and everything at such moments, not only mosquitoes. biggrin
