The History of Santa Claus: 7 Interesting Facts
As Christmas approaches, children around the world have Santa on the brain. They're anxiously wondering if they've been overly naughty or sufficiently nice, and eagerly daydreaming about their potential gift hauls. But exactly how did the jolly, bearded North Pole resident evolve into the cultural icon we know today? Here, seven interesting facts about his evolution:
1. He was a real person
2. He's only been 'Santa Claus' for 200 years
3. Satire first sent Santa down a chimney
4. "Twas the Night Before Christmas" introduced the reindeer
5. Coca-Cola created the modern Mr. Claus
6. The department store Santa is a 120-year-old tradition
7. Santa was a bachelor until the late 1800s

As far as I know, Coca-Cola company has coloured his clothes red))) before that Santa could wear any colour you like. But his traditional red-and-white clothes were created by Coca-Cola so it could coincide with C-C bottle and thus be associated with C-C products. And one should say that this advertising gimmick was very successful. May be that's why nowadays we can't imagine New Year without Coca-Cola ads?

Ha-ha, I like the point concerning Santa's private life most of all))) Who was his choice then? And what about our Father Frost? Only a granddaughter by the way I've read that she's sometimes regarded as his daughter or even wife) and no other relatives?))

That seems to be a real problem. When I wrote my penpal from California that in Russia children are given presents by Father Frost and his granddaughter, she asked me a logical question, "And who's his wife?". Then I wrote her that it's a secret for everybody but his daughter is Spring. So, the next question arises, "And who's her husband?"
Moreover, why do Father Frost and his granddaughter come from different towns? He is from Velikiy Ustug. And she's from Kostroma (if I'm not mistaken). So, why??!!!

I just decided that information could be interesting because of the coming holidays. Some facts were new for me and though traditionally we do not have this very "Santa Claus", we still believe in this fairy tale and it's nice that some miracles still can happen smile
