The most popular baby names: Welcome back, Jacob. So long, Elvis.
A lot of parents want their children to have unique names, or at least not so popular ones. But sometimes there are so many Johns or Bobs that it seems that all the boys have one and the same name. And do you know what are the most popular baby names in America?
Top 10 Names for Boys

1. Jacob
2. Ethan
3. Michael
4. Jayden
5. William
6. Alexander
7. Noah
8. Daniel
9. Aiden
10. Anthony

Top 10 Names for Girls

1. Isabella
2. Sophia
3. Emma
4. Olivia
5. Ava
6. Emily
7. Abigail
8. Madison
9. Chloe
10. Mia

But the real story isn't in the top 10. Lower in the top 1000 names there are trends that come out of nowhere. And this year, the trends are being driven by reality television. "America's No. 1 baby name stylemaker this year is not Angelina Jolie, not Barack Obama," Wattenberg said. "It's Maci Bookout."
Bookout is a teen mother from Chatanooga, Tenn. who was featured on MTV's "16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom." In 2010, Maci was the fastest-rising girl's name in America. Her son's name, Bentley, was the fastest-rising boy's name.

Appendizit???? I think his parents were just insane... How is a person with such a name supposed to live a normal life? He is destined to be laughed at!!!

OMG, people's imagination has no boundaries! What were they thinking about choosing a name for their child?
btw, I usually feel irritated when I come across such strange and even crazy names - Rossia, Princess Diana, Appendizit (According to the Inet, there are people whose parents were original enough... or mindless). What is it? Originality? just showing off, I think.

But I DO like Old Slavonic names - they possess certain charming beauty, a touch of history. Tihomir, Venislav, Miril, Visheslava smile mmm...

yes, I watched a TV-program about rare names in Russia... One couple called their baby-born Rossia (about a year ago). Poor girl!

Rossia is not the most awful name I've ever heard. Let's recollect the USSR times. Some parents named their children Leninida and Stalinida. And my favourite one is Dazdraperma. That means "Да здравствует первое мая".

The most popular names are Jacob and Isabella? biggrin :D biggrin OMG, I DO hope that it has nothing to do with this "twilight-craze", but I guess I hope in vain...

btw, what are the most popular Russian names today? According to different resources, the most popular names for boys are:
1. Alexander
2. Ivan or Max
3. Artem
And the most popular names for girls are:
1. Maria
2. Anastasia
3. Daria

Another tendency is choosing a rare and odd name for a child. That's why such Old Slavonic names as Miroslav, Elisey, Lubava, Zabava are coming into fashion.
