The High School of Economics have made a survey and published a rate of all Russian universities according to the average number of points the new students have got passing their state exams. Our RSU is on the 150th place (out of 475) and falls into the group of safe universities. Our Institute of foreign languages is on the 7th place in the list of all the faculties of foreign languages (all in all there are 56). Among the 76 classical universities the RSU is on the 20th position. For more information click here
I am sure that a lot depends on the student. If he wants to learn language he does it and a teacher helps him.Even most talented teacher can t teach a stundent.Of course if a student isn't interrested in it.
It is not rating of the quality of education. It is rating of UGE! It is absolutely another thing. We have only 2 (to my mind) real universities in our city. Radio university gives very good education, takes part in the number of researches but there are limited amount of people who are enough intelligent to study there (I speak about technical specialities). Demand dictates the supply. The more people want to study in our university the higher passing score is!
I have a hunch that these ratings will soon change radically. Our institute of foreign languages has come to the point of exhaustion in terms of staff members, research schools, teaching experience, international mobility of staff. I know that our Institute of Foreign Languages has a poor citation rating, i.e. your teachers (professors) do little research and have few publications that are used and cited by other scientists here and abroad.
We're even better than MGLU in foreign languages. It's strange but the list exludes the FSB Academy, as far as I remember they have the faculty of foreign languages. They teach future spies languages, and are proud of the highest level of the graduates' knowledge. Don't know actually any spies that's why can't say anything about the level of their faculty.
Oh, the Institute is in top-10! Hurray! Actually, I'm not that hilarious about the 150th place but I'm sure not everything depends on the University you go to. Self-discipline and diligence along with a bit of creativeness and talent make a student required on the employment market. You all know that some graduates of Moscow language universities know the foreign language on such a basic level that they can't be compared with ours.
