‘Titanic’ director reaches Earth’s deepest point

Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron has plunged new depths with his latest project – and he could not be more delighted!

The man who brought us ‘Titanic’ has completed the world’s first solo voyage to the deepest known part of the planet, nearly 11 kilometres underwater. It happened on March 26.

Cameron reached the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean in a specially-designed submarine.

It is the first manned expedition there since 1960.

This time round, special filming equipment was fitted to Cameron’s ‘Deepsea Challenger’ vessel to bring his record-breaking discoveries to the surface.

The great interest that The Mariana Trench arouses nowadays partially connected with with unique scientific experiments that are carried out in the fields of physics, biology and climatology. The scientists have proved that such immensely deep trenches in the ocean bottom bring about certain changes in the atmosphere, cause volcano eruptions, earthquakes and tsunami. The fauna inhabiting the Mariana Trench endures great water pressure, pitch darkness and extreme cold. But lately the Trench has been targeted as a perfect tourist attraction. Both businessmen and engineers are constructing special equipment and tourist bathyscaphes for plunging into 11km "hole". The trip will last for 6 hours, 2 of them will be designed for "sightseeing". You can hear more information about the mysteries and exploration of the Mariana Trench on bbc.co.uk.

Wow, upon my word, this man is restless!)) What is the whole matter about? I mean he's collecting material for another film or it's just his personal initiative? Anyway such an adventure will certainly have only positive effect both on the director and his future project) I wish all professionals were so responsible and scrupulous in their work no matter what sphere we're dealing with.
