World's Best Universities
World's top 400 universities have been singled out. And Harvard is not the best any more. The best university is California Institute of Technology. Top ten are also Cambridge, Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, Princeton, Imperial College London, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Chicago and University of California. Here you can find the top 50.
Among these 400 universities there are only two situated in Russia: Moscow State University (place 276-300) and Saint-Petersburg State University (place 351-400).

I'd be happy to tell you all about the American education system if you want. Asya told me about this website. I'm from the US, California actually, though I go to school in Washington. I don't know the ins and outs of your education system obviously so I can't compare it to mine, but the American system is definitely good. Or at least I find it to be. It didn't surprise me that we're among the top for the best universities. I think it also helps that America clearly has a lot of people and therefore we then have a ton of universities, statistically speaking it makes sense for the US to have spots on the list, but beyond that, we also have an excellent system. Every professor is continuously doing work in his or her field which also gives each student the opportunity to gain the needed skills to find a job and excel at it.

I guess foreign universities are just not for Russian students. Our mentality is different. We are outraged when a teacher doesn't let us go home earlier than the timetable allows. But there people are outraged when their money is wasted. Education is always money for them (first you pay, then you are paid depending on your knowledge and skills).

I'm just a little bit curious. If they pay for their education and don't want to waste their money, are there any classes that are not related to the chosen profession? Like Biology we have to study, for example...

American universities give excellent education on one condition: a student should study. Another thing is that any american uni is at the same time a perfect research centre, in which researchers do research and teach students. American unis are a huge system in the world's educational business. I have taken courses in four foreign universities: nothing suprising for me!

Frankly speaking I suppose that we can't speak about the quality of education there because we simply don't know. We've heard a lot but we've never experienced it ourselves. At the same time, I agree with you that the results can't be fair.

That's quite amazing that the best ten unis are mostly situated in the US. Is that really obvious, how do you think? do they really give that kind of excellent education?
