Can we study without the Internet?
"The Internet has evolved and entered our everyday lives at dizzying speed”, "with high-speed access, new services, and graphics-rich interfaces” the Internet is a part of everything we do. All of us know that many American or European students don’t use exercise books, paper books or other hard-copy forms; they manage only with the help of computer and feel good.
Our group is more a representative of such a model of study process, but, unfortunately not all the professors like to work in such a way. So, the first problem concerning the matter is unwillingness of teachers to raise the level of their computer skills, they are just afraid of introducing something new into the process of education "what for? My students manage without it and have good marks”.
At school, we were accustomed to using the Internet only when we needed to download an essay, usually in ready-made form, but why didn’t anyone show us the beauty of Antarctica with Google Street View, or chemical experiments with You Tube, why didn’t we communicate with foreign students with the help of Skype?
I conducted a small research. There were 11 participants, 20-21 years old. They live in Ryazan, study in the university but not in our group. I asked them a number of questions and they agreed (red) or disagreed (blue). Here are the questions:

When I asked the participants what they use the Internet for, the majority answered that for the purpose of study they use it only when they need to write an essay or a research work, but it is not an every-day practice.
To sum it up, I want to say that new technologies are helpful in the process of study, but it is not a widely-used practice yet. So, we can study with no technologies at all and it is very sad.

A good piece of research. I would suggest going into more argumentation to reveal the reasons for not using the Internet and for abusing the Internet. Though the last point sounds strange enough. I have initiated the web-based project with my group because I wanted to expand my students' horisons, to take them to new 'heights', to give them a chance to create and publish, to learn and develop in a really polycultural communicative and information-rich enviornment that is visited by so many. Look at what you r doing on the site - you r all creating yourselves! You r functioning in your dimension! Your education is only moderated but you are building it up yourselves.

Last year the topic of my psychological research was almost the same. I had to find out whether the Internet has much destructive and distractive influence on our students in their everyday life. Almost all of my "guinea-pigs" had no problems in connection with using the Internet. But still, most of them used the Internet to chat with friends, fewer people - for finding information for studies.
What I wanted to say is that the Internet occupies too much space in our life. I admit that it is easier to find something by its means, rather than to go to the library. But still, when I was younger and had to look up every word in a heavy paper dictionary, I learned them better. Now, I'm too lazy to do it, possessing an electronic version of several dictionaries.
Also, there is such a problem as total plagiarism of information from the Internet. Some people are even impudent not to check the data before hanging in. Thanks to Mr. Armstrong, now I know much about it as we all do.
The question is in the real use of such information and data. Even when you have to re-write it from the screen, it will serve you better than being just printed and read aloud at the lesson.
