Sales of new cars in Russia went up 77 percent in the first quarter of the year as compared to the same period last year. The top five makes that sell particularly well are Lada, Renault, Chevrolet, Kia and Nissan. According to David Thomas, who chairs the auto committee at the Association of European Business, Russia is bound to see a substantial increase in car sales over the next few years. A total of 2.24 million cars are expected to be sold in Russia in 2011, while in 2012 the Russian car market is expected to hit the pre-crisis level with 2.8-2.9 million cars sold yearly, the Association reports.
