The video is good, but I don't like the way the explanation is presented. There's one more thing I should mention. Investment and consumption will alweays be together. Our society is the world of consumerism. I can hardly imagine the society of investments. Very often people choose a way of consumerism in achieving their aims. And that's bad, because they fail to understand that on the first stages of progress it's unnesecessary to consume. For example, if you need a car, it's better to buy a cheap one (not old and almost broken), because in this case this is investment.
This is a very good idea to regard expenditures as a kind of investments. Because if you think and analyze the situation, then you will understand that in most cases you spend your money on things you REALLY need (education, health, pleasure), that is why buying a pen, you make an investment into your education, and buying clothes, a bag or a car you definitely make an investment in your future as well. Moreover it is a good explanation to yourself when you can't decide whether to spend money on this thing or not: "I am just investing to..."
Your comment reminded me of one friend of mine. She always bought lots of lipstics, mascaras and other stuff. And she always said (once she told me that she had heard this phrase in a movie): "I don't waste money! I make investments into my beauty!"
A very logical but long video explains in a simple way the key points in differentiating between consumption and investment. Actually, this is how money should be spent. When you pay for education, you don't buy educational services, you invest your money into your future career. When you buy an encyclopedia (and read it), you make an investment into your knowledge. Investment is in this sense a philosophical category that enables people to dispose their resources productively. By the way, investment can be done by cutting your expenses: give up smoking - invest in your health!
in this respect nearly every deed of yours may be considered an investment. For example, if I do my home assignments I invest into my knowledge and future career. But if I don't do them, I have a chance to sleep more and to feel better. So, I invest into my health, and, therefore, my future well-being. And that's up to everyone to decide which investment will bring more interest.
