When we send text messages, e-mails, chat with our friends, make phone calls we communicate. But such kind of communication is a bit different. I mean there can be some misunderstanding when we use different kinds of technologies. So I think sometimes it's better to communicate face to face than to send an SMS.

I think the developing of technologies sometimes really undermines our abilities of communication. We become professionals in prepared speech, because e-mail, ICQ, SMS improve such skills, but for some people now it is really difficult to formulate his/her thoughts in oral speech.

Completely agree with you... Unfortunately, I used to mix with a couple of people who are COMPLETELY unable to make their utterance logical and smooth in real life, but are so brilliant when they communicate through the ICQ or whatever that they seem to be perfect interlocutors in on-line communities. But when you meet such people face to face, you realize that they are extremely difficult to deal with. Even a telephone conversation resolves itself into a senseless set of phrases... "Hey... how are things? ...Um, I'm alright...Well, will you be on ICQ / vkontakte tonight? Great, see you there..."

So such things really take place.

Folks, I guess you are mistaken when you try to juxtapose communication and technology. Technology will never undermine communication values. Technology changes the form of communication. Using sms and mms, ICQ and conventional postcards, newspapers and adverts, talk and an email message - they are all real. If they all were not necessary and useful, we wouldn't use them. Don't you think so?

I disagree with you, Alexey. It seems to me that technology plays such a huge role in our life that it has already partially substituted real communication. Don't you think that sometimes it's so much easier for you just to send a message to someone rather than find time and necassary words to COMMUNICATE in real life?

A very nice poem so-to-say, but not absolutely right. Technology doesn't substitute real communication. Everything must have the golden means. Using technology also.
