A generation may be at higher risk of suicide - researchers

A generation of UK men born in the 1960s and 1970s may be more likely to take their own lives because of attitudes around the role of men at the time, Samaritans researchers have said.

Suicide rates are now highest in middle-age men, after years of falling rates in young people.

Academics said this may be due to a generation of at risk people ageing.

US space shuttle Endeavour has flown by California landmarks in a final air show before it heads for display in Los Angeles.
Piggy-backing on a modified Boeing 747 jet, the 75-ton ship flew past the California state capitol, Golden Gate Bridge and the Hollywood sign.

The shuttle appeared over San Francisco at around 09:30 local time (16:00 GMT) and Los Angeles some two hours later.

Scientists have identified a gene flaw linked to disc problems that are a common cause of lower back pain.

The UK study, published in the Annals of Rheumatic Diseases, looked at 4,600 people and found the PARK2 gene was linked to age-related disc problems.

A third of middle-aged women have problems with at least one spinal disc - and the condition is known to be inherited in up to 80% of patients.

St Leonards dog attack man admits charges.
A man has admitted four more counts of owning a dog dangerously out of control in a public place after 10 people were attacked in East Sussex last month. Spencer Brown, 22, had already admitted six counts earlier following the attack near his former home in St Leonards.He appeared at Hastings Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and was released on bail to be sentenced on 30 August.One victim seriously injured in the at ... Facebook suspends photo tag tool in Europe

Facebook has suspended the facial-recognition tool that suggests when registered users could be tagged in photographs uploaded to its website.
The move follows a review of Facebook's efforts to implement changes recommended by the Data Protection Commissioner of Ireland last year.

Helen Mirren returns to play The Queen

Dame Helen Mirren will revisit her Oscar-winning role in The Queen, playing Elizabeth II in a new play from Peter Morgan, called The Audience.

Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry will direct Dame Helen in the West End production next February.

The play, at London's Gielgud theatre, reunites the 67-year-old star with playwright Morgan, author of The Queen.
