Academy Award Ceremony. Year 2010.
Today the whole world tracked the Oscar-2010 Academy Award Ceremony. For some this year ceremony became a total misunderstanding, others think that there are reasonable causes for getting the statuettes. At first let’s try to find out why "Hurt Locker”? Once I’ve already said that the film has got the BAFTA award (the best motion picture of a year in the judgment of British Academy) and that it has no actual right to be in one list with the acknowledged and distinguished pictures that have become winners in the previous years. They say that critics’ opinion may differ from that of the audience, but this time something really abnormal happened. Knowing about the tendency of American Motion Picture Academy to give the main award to a picture that somehow reflects the problems of any kind typical of America I couldn’t even presuppose that Hurt Locker would get the award. But who may have thought that such a miserable performance offered by Hurt Locker would make it glory and bring the main statuette. Reading the Internet, looking through different vote polls, I noticed that the audience hesitated between this movie and Avatar. Now I remember my own words about how unjust it was to give the statute to Slumdog Millionaire, leaving Benjamin Button without recognition. What should we be ready for in 2011??? One more point that left me without thoughts was The Secret in their eyes getting the award for the best foreign picture. I watched it a couple of weeks ago, and must say that there is nothing outstanding in it. It’s a just an average south American arthouse movie with the elements of politics. The main stress is made upon the theme of love lasting for 30 years. Two other nominees – A Prophet and The white Ribbon were left behind the scene. Even Mr. Bergman, who was present this night in the studio of the First Channel, said that "The Ribbon is a pure sample of an exquisite European independent movie made in accordance with the rules and laws of classic cinematography”. What made the Academy give the Award to the Argentinean movie is a great secret not only for me. The best animated movie award went to "Up” as expected. I’m very glad that Jeff Bridges got the statuette for The best leading role. It was funny for me to watch Meryl Streep for the fifteenth time in the Kodak Hall waiting for the award (she’s a world record holder with 15 nominees and only one win – last year – during all her career). The Ceremony couldn’t just go without miracles. This time it concerned Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe who was nominated for the Best leading actress. Her story would amaze anyone – once instead of school she went to the casting having no theatrical education and no hope for the future. Next day she was called and invited on the project. Yesterday she was sitting in the Kodak Hall waiting for Oscar in the one list with such many-experienced actresses as Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep and Carey Muligan. Wonders happen! All in all this ceremony confirmed one good thing again – critic’s opinion has nothing in common with that of the audience. But probably what happened can be explained in a more simple way like money, power, blackmailing, bribery and so on))) Nonetheless now we’re just looking forward for the next year Ceremony.
