Some people claim that religion is the only reason for evolution and development. Others say that they believe in nothing and in nobody. Complete atheists. But can it really be so? I suppose, it can’t. Religion can’t be the force that makes the humanity go forward. Yes, it was useful a dozen of centuries ago. When people had no idea of science. But now, when we have developed such technologies, when we have investigated numerous phenomena, can we still believe that this is God who created the first living creatures, completely forgetting the Darwin’s theory? Or can we say that God has presented us with the Internet because everything we have has a divine nature? It would be absurd!!! I think it’s more sensible to admit that the "engine” of development is we, humans. But then we have to face another problem. Modern people are striving for their own well-being, for material possessions mainly, the more – the better, being the motto of life. But the problem is: the higher you fly, the longer you have to fall and the more painful it will be. Where are we heading for? Are we really so dependant? Or, on the contrary, so independent????
Asya, your post seems to be so eclectic, clipped ideas, not a mosaic. You are saying that 'religion can’t be the force that makes the humanity go forward'. I just fail to understand a few things: Why are you opposing religion to science? Is it because religion doesn't use microscopes or nuclear power? Why are you saying that religion is against scientific knowledge? Why are you looking at religion as an enemy to knowledge, progress and development? How is religion derogatory to Darwin's theory? When did religion prevent the civilization from development or progress? Why do you think that God should or could have presented man with the Internet? Why do you not understand that God in your message is represented as a strange power that is against knowledge and exploration?
To my mind this saying about how "high you fly" has nothing to do with modern life. It depends only on you how high you will fly and how low you will fall. Certainly, no one denies fate. Being a fatalist I wouldn't agree that we're those who plan our life. The following is a very old saying about God, but as everything about God, it has some metaphorical meaning and a deep sense - "How to the make God laugh? - Tell him about your plans for the future."
But the problem is: the higher you fly, the longer you have to fall and the more painful it will be.
Do you think that Bill Gates, for example, will have the longest falling and the most painful landing? The thing that I don't understand in your post, is why do you oppose striving for well-being and religion? Do you think that being a religious person means being poor and having no ambitions?
We can decide ourselves how to build our own life, and I don't think we are dependent upon something or somebody. Sometimes some situations or conditions make us change our mind or our opinion about something. But I would say there is one thing that is very important in our life and that helps us move farward all the time. And this thing is faith. And do not tell me that there are atheists who believe in nothing. Everybody has faith. Maybe atheists do not believe in God, but they believe in something or someone anyway.

Yes! That's it! There are no people who believe in noting. It's a silly prejudice that atheists are immoral people who have no moral values, who lack for faith. BS! Disapproval of religion as a social institute, as the way to influence people's minds and rejection of any kinds of believes are different things. There are a lot of other things a person can believe in - he himself, other people, laws of life, nature, fate, etc... Anyone believes in something.
What do you mean under "development"? To my mind, development and evolution have nothing to do with religion or faith. The only exception probably is the development of personality, of personal traits of character, of spiritual sets of principles. God has presented us not with the Internet, but with the ability to think. The way we use this ability is not dependent on God. Six days of divine creation is just a story of Beginning and I'm sure it shouldn't be taken directly. The Bible needs to be read between lines, extracting the things and thoughts which are not written there at all.
