We believe in the supernatural because we try to explain things with the help of it. People always like to shift their problems, their difficult situations to something mysterious. Everybody has always wanted to believe in magic. That is why they created fairy-tales, guessing and magicians. The Great German philosopher Immanuel Kant saw the doctrines of religion as an answer to the question "What can I hope for?”. To my mind this belief in the supernatural rests in our feebleness. We can’t explain things such as "How were we born? What will be with us in our future? Why do people die? Is there a life after death?" and so on. We can’t make a decision about this, that is why it is easier to find answers in magic, in God, in religion. It is like a great help that can facilitate our life. Religion is such an unusual thing. For every nation it is different. More than that, for everyone it is different. Some of us believe that reincarnation can exist in our life, others say that religion is a necessary thing because every person believes and goes to church. So, that means that I also must do it.
But what is Religion for you? It is only a church, an altar, candles, a prayer, a mass? Or is it a place where you can tell all you secrets or trust in the preacher? For every of us the term "religion” is different and unique. Nowadays people try to explain everything with the help of science, like the birth of our world and other things. But let's understand that religion is not for explaining things. It's first purpose is to plant calmness and harmony in the soul, it is like a reception at the psychologist's to help you to find a right decision in a difficult situation.
I guess it is widely known that the first religious worldview was shaped under the influence of fear of death. This was the first thing that cave people could not explain, and as rational type of thinking is only the latest form of development, they tried to find a piece of explanation in the existence of supernatural powers. And we should note that the idea of one almighty God was not common in ancient times. How could we explain this? Is monotheism just the highest step of evolution of human mind?
I believe in God. But I know that my faith is sometimes undermined by loads of questions and doubts that arouse too often.
I believe in God, too. I do not explain or prove this fact to myself. But I think I can explain to many people that religion and believing in God is an indispensible part of our world view. Atheists substitute this part by other moral teachings, without much success though. I don't think that religion is different for everyone. There should and must be common, unifying principles shared by all. We never say that physics or maths is different for different people. The question 'Why do we die?" has been answered by sciences and by religion as well, and there is no disagreement about this fact.
I believe in God. I believe in life after death. For me religion is not only "a reception at the spiritual psychologist's". But it is the air that I breathe. So if God exists, everything is His own creation. Since He is the Creator, He alone knows the laws for the world to develope in the right way. He gave this laws. It is evident for me that I must follow these laws.
