MORRISSEY - "one of the most influential artists ever"
Hi there!)) My blog will be 'bout all kinds of music, 'bout interesting events and people in this great world of art! In this blog i want u to answer my questions, share your OWN thoughts and points of view and, of course, listening to music I offer)))) My first article is 'bout one of the Greatest GB musicians, and probably one of the World's Greatest rock musicians ever. He's a kind of idol for me - Steven Patrick Morrissey!
Steven Patrick Morrissey, known primarily as Morrissey, is a British singer-songwriter. After a short stint in the punk rock band [b]The Nosebleeds in the late 1970s, he rose to prominence in the 1980s as the lyricist and vocalist of the alternative rock band The Smiths. After the band's breakup in 1987, Morrissey began a solo career, in which he continued the jangle pop. Widely regarded as an important innovator in indie music, Morrissey has been described by music magazine NME as "one of the most influential artists ever," and The Independent has stated that "most pop stars have to be dead before they reach the iconic status that he has reached in his lifetime." Pitchfork Media has called him "one of the most singular figures in Western popular culture from the last 20 years." Morrissey's sardonic, literate lyrics tend to be "dramatic...bleak, funny vignettes about doomed relationships, lonely nightclubs, the burden of the past and the prison of the home." He is also noted for his unique vocal style. His forthright, often contrarian opinions have led to a number of media controversies, and he has also attracted media attention from his advocacy of vegetarianism and animal rights..............." (from the Wikipedia) read more here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morissey Speakin' 'bout Morrissey I'd like to avice you to listen to some of his songs... They are: "I have forgiven Jesus", How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel? and the song from the new album - "That's how people grow up". Morrissey's today's voice doesn't differ from his voice in the 70-80s. He's a phenomenon!!! So, what can you say about Morrissey? Is he really great or no good?
I've done it!!!!))) I've listened to these three songs you mentioned. ("I have forgiven Jesus", "How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel?" and "That's how people grow up") To tell the truth, it's not the kind of music I'm hooked on, but... But I liked the song "That's how people grow up")))) Not because of the music. Not because of the captivating voice. Because of the words. They just seem too familiar to me, although I'm sure that I've never listened to this song before. They are consonant with my own thoughts)))) And now I'm doing almost everything with the words in my mind: "I was wasting my time looking for love..."
I've just listened to some of Morrissey's songs, I really loved "I have forgiven Jesus"! What a deep, charming, rich and mellow voice, what a heart-felt lyrics! Actually I'm stoned, thank you Alex, it's a sudden discovery for me
Wow!!!! I don't understand what's wrong with my blog!!!!
Why do I like his music and songs? Well, actually because there is everything in them - rock drive, perfect stucture, pleasant smooth sound, great vox and lots of common sense in lyrics.
I do have an mp3 collection - it contains 12 albums by The Smiths and 12 Morrissey's albums. I also recently got his new album "Years of Refusal",so I can rightfully say that I have ALL recordins of his))
Of course there are some songs I will never stop listening to, i'll think it over which lyrics would best suit our LP's)))
Hi, Alex! I have always been interested in rock music. I have a few questions. Could you write in more detail about those features that have made this pop artist a prominent figure in the modern rock culture? Why do you like his music and songs? Do you have any recordings? Do you have any lyrics of his best songs that you will never stop listening to? Alex, be more active on the website. It could be a good idea to include some of his lyrics (texts) into our lesson plans. I have another idea - why not start a 'Music Interests' Poll among our group members and other guests of the site!
