In spite of
widespread opinion that music is just a hobby, I can say that being a musician
is more than just a way to spend your free time. This kind of activity changes
one's personality, character and even lifestyle - dealing with the world of
music leaves its mark on one's life. First of all, being a musician implies
having and making a lot of friends and acquaintances(sometimes not very nice
but useful) - you always have to communicate with different people of different
ages, occupations and social status - other musicians, different
art-directors, photographers, showmen, your fans, your haters etc. It is
also supposed that you are always friendly, active and ready to adapt to every important
interlocutor. It's no doubt that you can't be afraid of performing on the stage
- doesn't matter how many people are watching you and listening to you - are
there a dozen or a thousand of them. Being a musician means that you should be
ready to be criticized - very often and sometimes not very just. You should be ready
to hear phrases like "I'm fed up with your endless rehearsals!" from
your family and friends... It implies being ready to perform even when you are ill and
feel sick, or have some personal problems. You must always be ready to discuss your
music, other people's music, your positions and views on different things
concerning music. You should always think about how to make your music more
interesting and popular, but at the same time keep making stuff you like and
appreciate yourself. When you are a musician, you no longer have a possibility
to listen to music for the sake of pleasure - you fisk it automatically in your
brain in order to understand how this or that thing is made and played... And
this list is endless. You might have thought that being a musician is a terrible
thing, and it's a nonsense why do many people go in for it... The secret is
very simple - the art of music is the most amazing form of art - it can
influence people’s minds, thoughts, moods, views, and it does it every day.
Every second millions of people are listening to music - at home, in the car,
at a gig, and thousands of people are making it, and all these people are
happy. Really happy. That's the reason for my casting my lot with music - it
makes me happy.
