You know I really love Greece! So this summer I have been there again, but on an island for the first time. Rhodes… there are many things to say about my journey. We rented a car and travelled all over the island, because it is not very big. [The island of Rhodes is shaped like a spearhead, 79.7 km long and 38 km wide, with a total area of approximately 1,400 square kilometres and a coastline of approximately 220 km (from http://en.wikipedia.org)]. Now I want to tell you about one of the sights of the island that really astonished me. It is called Mussolini’s dacha. This is an old neglected house which was supposed to be of Benito Mussolini, it was actually occupied by General Di Vecchi, Italian Governor of Rhodes between 1936-1940. Nobody could tell me why it is called Mussolini’s house. In fact Mussolini has never been there.
The luxurious mansion, which has fell into disrepair, is situated in this evergreen village. Dacha includes 3 buildings: the main house, a church and a stable for 15 (!) horses and there is a real tennis court on the roof of it.
In spite of the fact that it is located among the hills it is house with running water. But the most interesting thing is that water-supply line go somewhere to the top of the hill. There used to be stairs upwards, but now they are destroyed. May be there was a fountain or a bathhouse there. Who knows? I couldn’t find the answer in the Internet. This place really amazed me. I have never seen so beautiful views and so luxurious residences. Despite being deserted and abandoned, it is still worth a visit, I have tried to capture this fantastic house on photos.
Yep, it's breath-taking! I asked you a question about why it's still abandoned and no one has a privilege to make it their property... Now I feel it's all for the best. Everyone should have a chance to delight in the atmosphere of "unadopted' beauty. It's marvelous, it's fantastic, it's chilling to realize that your presence there isn't shadowed by someone's luxurious routine life
