US pop-punk rockers Panic! at the Disco have beaten a host of bigger names to win best video at the MTV Video Music Awards. The group - who released their debut album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out last September - were formed by guitarist Ryan Ross and drummer Spencer Smith.
The two friends, from the suburbs(пригород) of Las Vegas, jammed(импровизировать) together as teenagers.
Classmates Brendon Urie and Brent Wilson were recruited(набирать) on vocals and bass respectively and the quartet began rehearsing(репетировать) in Smith's grandmother's living room.
They were signed to a record label by Pete Wentz from fellow(товарищеский) band Fall Out Boy - who took the viewers' choice trophy at Thursday's ceremony in New York.
The four left their education behind to concentrate on music, with Ross falling out with his father for leaving college after his first year.
Their album was influenced by their favourite groups, including Third Eye Blind, Queen, Fleetwood Mac and Counting Crows. Panic! were nominated for best international newcomer at last week's Kerrang! awards in London - losing out to Aiden.
While in the UK, they performed at the Reading Festival - where Urie was hit in the face by a bottle thrown from the crowd.
But after several minutes, the band carried on, with the singer telling the crowd: "You can't take me out."
They had a total of five nominations going into the MTV ceremony.
There was also a change in their line-up in May, when Wilson was replaced by Jon Walker.
The band said his departure was "very healthy" but did not elaborate(разрабатывать) on the reasons behind it.
But he was a "great friend" who would "definitely be missed", they acknowledged(признавать).
Questions: 1) What's the style of Panic! At the Disco? 2) Who is a lead singer of P!ATD? 3) Who is the boss of the record label with whom P!ATD signed a contract? 4) How many nomination P!ATD had on MTV ceremony? 5) What did they acknowledge about the replacement of Wilson by Walker?
Panic! At the Disco is one of my favourite groups. But to tell the truth, I didn't know about these facts of their biography! By the way, I know that P!ATD signed a contract with the record label of Pete Wentz. He is a bass-player in Fall Out Boy. I also know that Pete and Brendon (a lead singer of P!ATD) are friends. They're really cool guys! I hope that I'll visit their concerts soon.
