Many of the residents forced(вынуждены) from their homes by flooding are expected to spend Christmas in temporary(временные)accommodation.
Forecasters have said that rain will ease for much of Scotland. But, with so much rain having fallen, surface water is likely to be a continuing problem.
At 22:00 on Christmas Eve, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) had 13 flood warnings active.
These covered parts of Aberdeenshire, at Kintore, as well as much of rural(сельский) Tayside.
In addition, flood alerts(оповещание) had been issued for Dundee and Angus, Fife, Central, Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. Volunteers
The worst of the flooding problems have been in Stonehaven.
In the centre of town, flood water was feared to have been contaminated by raw sewage.
There, the public have been donating(пожертвование) gifts for those who have lost their homes. Volunteers came forward at the council's depot at Spurryhillock, near Stonehaven, to help fill sandbags.
Willie Munro, the area manager for Aberdeenshire Council in Kincardine and Mearns, said: "It is fantastic that the local community have rallied (сплотился)round to support those in need and we hope that this generous gesture of goodwill will let people know that the whole community is concerned and there to support them.
"The immediate priority is that everyone is safe and housed over Christmas and that properties(свойства) are secured.
"Residents are advised to continue to be vigilant(бдительный) within their neighbourhoods."
The council has said its priority is to return the town to normal as quickly as possible.
Mr Munro added: "Our priority for the next few weeks is to help the community to get back on its feet and to make sure that the message is clear to everyone - Stonehaven is open for business." More rain
Forecasters have said much of Scotland should be dryer throughout Christmas, although another band of rain will sweep over Scotland on Boxing day evening.
Heavy rain could return to much of the country by Friday.
Sepa Head of Hydrology Richard Brown said: "There's a bit of a window and people should hopefully be assured over the next couple of days.
"Down the east coast of Scotland things should improve, although obviously there's still a lot of standing water lying around."

As for me I think that this article is interesting and readers will like it too.I advice to read it.
Just like many people i associate New Year with snowman, snowballs, and great piles of snow. It is really sad to celebrate New Year in the rain. But ,folks, do you remember the 2011 year. There were no snow on the streets. So it isn't surprising.
I agree with you.I can't amagine New year with rain too...And it's natural to celebrate this holliday with snow in our country but in another countries can be another weather events...
I associate Christmas with lots of snow) And I cannot imagine how people can celebrate Christmas in the rain! How many natural tragedies have happened lately! Many people suffer because of natural disturbances such as rain in winter. Although residents of Scotland are used to it.
Of corse, Christmas and New Year with rain is not good, but I think it isn't main thing. All depends on our mood. A Christmas mood creats a holiday atmosphere Anyway, I'm sure that rain won't come to Russia.
In my opiniom, it is a tragedy!!!!Nowadays there are many disasters. People are afraid of it. It is known about the end of the world!!! To tell the truth, i am afraid of it too. We should be careful!!!
