Origins of the art
     Firstly, I want to tell the history of the appearance of anime. It was originated in the 20th century, when Japanese directors started to experiment with technology animation that was invented in the West. Osama Tezuka is the founder of modern anime, he is often called "The King of Anime and Manga", because he adopted from the Disney style of using large eyes for transfering emotions. He directed the creation of his first works.

     Secondly, Anime VERY MUCH DIFFERS from cartoons made in other countries. These are the main features of the differences:

     - western animation was oriented mainly on children, for example any hero's adventures;
     - anime is a closed cultural stratum, which includes many unique storylines and symbols, templates, stereotypes and typecasting;
     - moreover anime is concentrated on a more adult spectator because of its philosophical and ideological components and prevalence of "adult" themes;
     - most of all anime is created for a specific, sometimes fairly narrow, audience and is meant to be astimated by such an audience.

     Thirdly, those who are little acquainted with anime usually single out a character's eyes. And really it is possible to conclude about a character just looking at his eyes. Positive, funny, friendly characters often have large, bright, "full-of-life" eyes. Unsociable, gloomy, negative characters have semi-enclosed, shaded fringe eyes, which resemle those of a bird of prey or snakes. But if a character hasn't got a soul, his eyes are lifeless and without a glitter. Children have very large eyes and old men have small eyes with small pupils. Glasses are an additional means of expression and they are inherent in erudite and shy persons.
     To conclude, I want to say that anime is an amazing style of visual entertainment and visual journey into human psyche. It is not all of course, but I think I will be giving the information in little portions.  ^__^

MadPanda, you're absolutely right. I think everybody who starts to watch anime should begin with Hayao Miyazaki's movies happy

lovefootball, it depends on what movies do you like to watch.... But I suggesst watching Hayao Miyazaki's movies first, they are not so long, very beautiful and the story is also amazing ^_# e.g. "my neighbour Totoro" or "spirited away" or "whisper of the heart" and many others. You cam just google them and watch online =)

What advice can you give someone who is not familiar with anime but intends to watch it?

By the way, Seagull, "unreal" eyes are not always used. There are many works where eyes are drawn quite natural. I will talk about it...

For me the eyes are really a calling card of anime. But why are they always trembling?

This is the first time I have ever read about the origins of Anime and seem to have grasped some main features of this unusual visual art. I have also found out that there are two different styles - Anime and Manga. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Manga and the typical distinctive features that lay them apart or bring close to each other. Hopefully, you blog posts will help me understand these things.

Well, it'll be very interesting to read your blog, I think. I just want to say that I dislike this idea with "unreal" eyes of anime heroes... In my opinion, that's too unnatural...

As for me, I really like this wonderful way of expressing emotional state of a character - eyes. The light of the body is the eye, they say. By the way, this peculiar thing makes anime cartoons stick out of any other world animations.
