Snake abandoned in Hook car park found by children
Two children have found a rare snake abandoned in a Hampshire car park.
The RSPCA is hoping to trace its owner after the serpent was discovered dumped inside a smashed up vivarium in Bowling Green Drive, Hook, on Tuesday.
The Irian Jaya carpet python is native to Papua New Guinea and northern Australia. Most are tame and easy to handle and rarely bite.
RSPCA inspectors believe the snake may have been abandoned by an owner who could not afford to treat it.
The snake, a female aged about three, was found in a healthy weight but had a large swelling on its body, probably caused by an old untreated injury.
It received treatment from a local vet before being taken to a local exotics expert.
Jessica Flemming said it was her dog that found the snake in the ditch.
She said: "As I went down to get her I saw a snake. It was a really big snake, about 4ft.
"We just stayed with it because it wasn't moving much because it was quite cold. So we stayed with it but keeping a safe distance away."
RSPCA inspector Phillip Hamilton said: "It would have been a death sentence to her if she was just left there.
"Just being left in a ditch near a park is ridiculous."
His colleague Rachel Gowers added: "A snake of this type would need to be kept in a warm environment and if it was not found quickly, could easily have died from the cold.
"To dump it in this way is totally irresponsible.
"Exotic pets are often the innocent victims of people who lose interest in them.
"It is likely that this animal was abandoned by someone who chose to take the coward's way out and dump it rather than getting it the veterinary attention it needed.
Who found the snake? Why did the snake can't move? What kind of snakes was found? What is the vivarium? How big was the snake?
I think that it was a very irresponsible action. Some people keeps animals only for amusement. It is wrong. Moreover, snakes can be dangerous.People can't look after them so animals can suffer!!!!!People can keep animals only if they sure that they can look after them!!!!
Answers to the questions: Two children found a snake. The snake had a tumor so she could not move. Only one snake was found. It was a really big snake, about 4ft. The snake was the Irian Jaya carpet python. Vivarium is a place where animals are kept.
The owner is so much irresponsible. Many people are afraid of snakes. So I can imagine this feeling of horror when you find a huge python. Moreover, I think wild animals should live in their natural environment. If you want a pet - get a domestic animal.
As for me, it is a cool acticle. I like different stories about exotic animals but these animals are dangerous and childrem must be careful to them. Don not forget it is a snake
I can imagine the joy of children who found this snake I would be really amused in such case Cause i like dangerous animals. But on the other hand it might have bad consequences for both children and poor snake
In my opinion this text is interesting. But I do not understand people who have dangerous pets.I think that dangerous animals sould live in the terrariums or in the zoo...
To my mind, this article is very interesting. I think, everyone should know that having a pet is a real responsibility. If you have such a dangerous "pet" you MUST create good conditions for it's having. Moreover, this pet won't be dangerous for other people.
